Top 5 | Kickstarter Projects 2017

Of course, this is my opinion, and because the blog started this year we have 4 board games and 1 video game represented! I am sure next year will have a bit more diversity as far as what is on the list. Another thing to note, these are selected based on three factors for me:: 1) Actual campaign look – 2) Excitement about the product – 3) Other random things like the journey of the creator etc. I only backed one of these projects, mainly because I didn’t have the money for everything. That will be changed in the future too.

Now that is out of the way, here are my top 5 KS projects of 2017!

5) Pathfinder Kingmaker

The lone video game on the list, but it is D&D 3.75! I love Pathfinder, and I was happy to see 3.5 continue into the future really allowing for great stories to be told while the fiasco called 4th edition was the primary rulebooks for D&D fans.

Funding Period: Jun 6 2017 – Jul 11 2017 (35 days)

Final Funds: $909,057 pledged of $500,000 goal

Backers: 18,351

4) Unstable Unicorns

This was actually the first project I backed and the first project I chose to write about. The art is cute and as I have said plenty of times before I love card games! Unicorns are the new zombie. Prepare to see plenty of projects with unicorns as the focus. Especially with the return on this campaign!

Funding Period: Aug 16 2017 – Sep 15 2017 (30 days)

Final Funds: $1,865,140 pledged of $10,000 goal

Backers: 33,720

3) Rising Sun

The miniatures alone puts this game on the list for me. Add a fantastic story set in Feudal Japan and their mythos and you have my undivided attention. This game deserves a second and third print (with all those KS exclusives please).

Funding Period: Mar 7 2017 – Apr 3 2017 (27 days)

Final Funds: $4,228,060 pledged of $300,000 goal

Backers: 31,262

2) The Enigma Box

This whole project pulls you in almost immediately. They have beautifully crafted an Alternate Reality Game that uses augmented and virtual reality pieces for the player to solve riddles. They also have a worldwide event to finish the main story, which I hope goes smoothly! I love when people dream big.

Funding Period: Nov 6 2017 – Dec 6 2017 (30 days)

Final Funds: £144,208 pledged of £40,000 goal

Backers: 804

My favorite Kickstarter of 2017?

1) Monster Lands

Almost 100 dice, multiple levels of play, solo mode availability, great KS exclusives, and amazing art. I was devastated when I realized I couldn’t back this project because I was saving money for Thailand. I know it will be worth it, but this game just looks amazing! I also got to interview the designer on this project.

Funding Period: Oct 17 2017 – Nov 15 2017 (29 days)

Final Funds: 246,401 pledged of €25,000 goal

There was honestly so many amazing projects that I saw, and this was very difficult for me. I can say though, that 2018 looks like it is shaping up to be an amazing year for crowdfunding! Hopefully, you are planning to back a few projects to add more to the world! Did I miss something? Let me know in the comments.

Stay Foolish!
